On Tuesday, the 22nd of August, after a meeting with the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics, NA politician, Defence Minister Inara Murniece said that the National Alliance (NA) sees the current coalition model as the most optimal one for forming a new government, while at the same time a “new situation” has arisen.
Murniece noted that the principles of the next government and the work to be done were discussed with the President.
For their part, the NA politicians stressed the priority of national security, including the construction of border infrastructure with Russia and Belarus.
According to the NA politician, during the meeting with the Minister of Economy Ilze Indriksone, the issues of economic growth and regional development were also discussed.
As BNN already reported, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) has resigned as Prime Minister therefore rising the question of forming a new government. Up to now only New Unity has nominated their candidate for the position of Prime Minister – Welfare Minister Evika Silina (JV).
