Multiple medics leave Emergency Medical Service after reorganisation

Seven medics have left Latvian Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) after internal reorganisation within the service, said Director of NMPD Liene Cipule in an interview to TV3 programme 900 seconds.

These people worked under the lowest workload and were preparing to retire, said Cipule.

Currently there are slightly more than 200 vacant jobs at NMPD. Cipule explained that the challenges her sector now faces are similar to those in other sectors.

Therefore, ways are being sought to direct employees to places where crews are needed. Cipule said that the service is constantly improving the organization of work so that every day throughout Latvia crews are “on the line”.

As previously reported, this year, there have been a number of changes in the organization of the work of the NMPD – the workload of individual employees has been reduced, the composition of three persons in some crews has been changed to two, as well as the working hours of individual crews will change, transforming them from 24-hour to day crews in places where there is less than one call to the brigade at night hours.
