The National Guard 1st Riga Brigade reports that activities part of Namejs 2023 military exercises will be taking place in in Riga, Ropaži, Ķekava and Mārupe between the 25th of September and the 1st of October.
During these exercises National Guard 1st Riga Battalion will be working with State Police, State Fire and Rescue Service, Riga municipality and municipal businesses, Riga Municipal Police, Riga Freeport authority, State Environment Service, Emergency Medical Service and various businesses to improve and strengthen cooperation in various tasks in the event of threats to the state.
As previously reported, Namejs 2023 military exercises will be taking place in Latvia between the 5th of September and the 2nd of October.
Information for residents! During exercises army vehicles of the National Guard and National Armed Forces will be using state and municipal roads to move around. Blank rounds are used during military exercises. Although they produce noise, they do not present threats to people.
Local residents should not worry
if they see soldiers and national guards outside military bases, units and military equipment deployed in areas. Authorities also urge residents to be patient with any short-term road traffic congestion that may come as a result of military vehicles using local and state roads.
Once military exercises are over, territories used by military personnel will be cleaned up.

The National Guard does not does not differentiate by nationality, education, specialisation or experience. Candidates have to be Latvian citizens aged between 18 and 60 years with state language skills at least B1 level. Candidates also have to be in appropriate shape for military service.
