Midweek Rain, Wind and Thunderstorms – But the Weekend Will Be Warmer and Calmer

Wednesday will bring mostly cloudy skies, though occasional clear spells are expected. Rain is forecast in some areas, primarily in the eastern part of the country, with thunderstorms and heavy downpours possible. A light to moderate west-southwesterly wind will pick up during the day, with gusts reaching up to 15 m/s.

Overnight temperatures will range from +12°C to +15°C, and daytime highs will reach +16°C to +21°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Thursday, variable cloud cover is expected. Scattered showers are likely in many areas, with occasional thunderstorms and heavy rain during the day. During the night, fog will develop in parts of the western and central regions, significantly reducing visibility. Winds will be light to moderate from the west, gradually shifting to northwesterly and westerly directions, with gusts up to 15–16 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will fall to +8°C to +13°C, while daytime highs will be between +15°C and +19°C.

On Friday, the skies will be mostly cloudy, with only occasional clearing.

Widespread rain is expected, particularly in central regions where it will be prolonged and heavy. In the east, fog may form overnight, again reducing visibility. A moderate to moderately strong northwesterly and westerly wind will blow, with gusts up to 15–18 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will be +10°C to +13°C, and daytime temperatures will rise to +15°C to +19°C.

Over the weekend, weather conditions will improve — skies will gradually clear, and both the amount and extent of rainfall will decrease. Rain is expected only in isolated areas in the east. Daytime temperatures will rise, reaching around +20°C.

According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, variable weather is expected during the Midsummer holidays. On Līgo Day (June 23), sun and clouds will alternate, with rain likely across much of the country, and possible thunderstorms in central regions. Winds will be gusty, and maximum temperatures will be around +20°C in many areas.

Jāņi Night (June 23–24) will be chilly, with temperatures dropping to +10°C to +13°C. Rainfall will subside overnight, with precipitation expected only in eastern areas. On Jāņi Day (June 24), temperatures will be slightly lower than on Līgo Day.
