Meteorologists warn of flooding in Latvia. Dangerously high water level near Pļaviņas and Zeļķu Bridge

The water level near Pļaviņas and Zeļķu Bridge is dangerously high. Widespread area flooding is observed, according to data from Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

An orange level warning is announced along the banks of Daugava River between Pļaviņas and Jēkabpils, as well as the lower reaches of the Aiviekste.
At 04:20 am on Wednesday, the 28th of February, water level in Pļaviņas was 12.08 m above the zero level or almost 4 m higher than the day prior. In the floods of April 2013, which were the largest in the history of meteorological observations in Latvia, the water level in Pļaviņas was 13.5 m.
Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre notes that the water level near Zeļķi railway bridge was 7.12 m at 04:20 am, which is approximately 2 m higher than the day prior. At one point at night water level had reached almost 8 m. In January 2023 water level in this area briefly reached 8.6 m.
In Jēkabpils the water level in Daugava River was at 6.24 m at 04:20 am on Wednesday. Territories in Krustpils and Sala are flooded.
The water level higher up Jēkabpils is mostly going down, and there are no threats of widespread flooding. With larger masses of ice going farther away, the water level near Daugavpils has gone down by more than 1 m in the past 24 hours. Ice continues piling up in Pļaviņas reservoir.
