Meteorologists warn in Latvia: drifting snow, poor visibility and slippery roads

On Thursday, the 8th of January, and Friday, the sky will be mostly cloudy, but no significant precipitation is expected, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Thursday, winds will remain light, but on Friday they will strengthen from the east and northeast and become gusty over a wider area. As a result, drifting snow is expected — snow being blown along the surface of the snow cover by the wind when there is no active snowfall. With frost persisting, air temperatures across the entire country will remain below zero both at night and during the day, mostly in the range of −5 to −10 degrees Celsius. However, it should be noted that on Friday,

as conditions become windier, it will feel significantly colder.

Over the weekend and at the beginning of next week, snow is again expected in most parts of the country, while air temperatures will remain roughly the same.

During snowfall, visibility will deteriorate, and in some sections roads will be slippery, meteorologists warn.
