Meteorologists warn: A cyclone with rain, wind, and snowflakes is approaching Latvia

On Monday and Tuesday, the skies will remain mostly cloudy, and in many parts of the country, there will be occasional rainfall both during the day and at night, mostly light, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

With light winds blowing, fog will form in some areas at night and may persist in places during the day. During the dark hours of the day, air temperatures will drop to between +2°C and +6°C (a few degrees warmer along parts of the coast), while daytime temperatures will not exceed +4°C to +9°C.

On Wednesday, although some sunshine may break through the clouds in places, light rain is expected in parts of the country, mainly in the western regions. During the day, the south to southwesterly wind will strengthen, reaching gusts of up to 15 m/s along the coast.

As slightly warmer air flows in temporarily, temperatures in some areas will rise above +10°C.

In the second half of the week, an active cyclone will approach Latvia from the northwest. On Thursday, new precipitation zones will move across the country, bringing heavier rain to most areas. The wind will shift to westerly and northwesterly directions and become gusty across almost all of Latvia. From Friday onward, the cyclone’s influence will gradually diminish, temperatures will drop, and over the weekend, nighttime temperatures in many places will fall below 0°C.

Although precipitation will be scattered by the end of the week, rain will mix with snow, and a thin, temporary layer of snow may form in some areas. Slippery road conditions due to icing are expected on certain road sections.
