The clouds that will fully cover the sky on Monday, the 15th of January, will carry precipitation to the entire country. It will snow in most of the country. Wet snow is expected along the coast. Local freezing rain is possible as well.
At times the layer of snow will increase by 5 cm. The wind will be slow to moderate and will blow from the south. Maximum air temperature will be +2° C… -4° C, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
In the middle of the week weather in Latvia will be dictated by multiple cyclones – it will snow at times, the wind will pick up in strength and will frequently change directions. On Tuesday the wind will mostly blow from the north-west and west. On Wednesday the wind will blow from the south and south-west. The wind will be the strongest in coastal regions – wind speed there may reach upwards of 20 m/sec! The cold air from the north will remain dominant in the skies above Latvia, meteorologists predict.
The meteorology centre reports that air temperature at night may drop as far as -4° C… -10° C (-15° C in eastern parts of the country). During the day air temperature will remain below 0° C (-9° C in eastern territories).
In the second half of the week weather will remain similar – precipitation every now and then, strong wind along the coast, air temperature no higher than +1° C during the day.
