Meteorologists predict snow in some regions of Latvia this week

After a short period of warmth last week, colder masses of air will flow to Latvia this week. This means air temperature will go down again, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Frequent precipitation is expected, mainly in the form of wet snow and snow. Strong and lasting snowfall is predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday this week. A new layer of snow will from in many parts of the country. Motorists should expect difficult driving conditions – slippery roads and poor visibility.
The week will start off with cloudy weather with moments of clear sky. On Monday, the 27th of March, meteorologists predict local precipitation. Air temperature will not rise above +1° C… +6° C.
On Tuesday the sky will be cloudy as well. The sky will become clear at times at night. A new cyclone will approach Latvia from the south-west, bringing strong and lasting precipitation. Snow is expected in eastern and central regions. A layer of snow will form in many parts of the country, reaching a thickness of 5-9 cm in central and eastern regions of the country,

in some eastern regions the layer of snow may exceed 10-14 cm.

The wind will blow from the west. Wind speed may become strong in the afternoon in western parts of the country. At night air temperature will drop to +1° C… -3° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach 0° C… +5° C. Motorists should keep in mind that roads in some regions may become slippery and visibility may drop during moments of precipitation.
With cyclone activity remaining, the sky will be covered by thick layer of clouds on Wednesday, the 29th of March. Snowing will continue. At times the layer of snow will increase by another 1-4 cm. Eastern parts of the country will experience rainfall. In the second half of the day, the intensity of precipitation will gradually go down.
In the second half of the week there will be less precipitation and the sky will become clear more often. However, it will remain cold. At night air temperature will be -1° C… -7° C, whereas daytime air temperature will not exceed +6° C. Current forecasts suggest no major changes to weather conditions will come at the end of the week.
