Meteorologists predict rain and snow in Latvia this week

This week many parts of Latvia will experience some precipitation, mostly in the form of wet snow and snow. However, no major increase of the layer of snow is expected, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Monday, 24 January, weather in Latvia will be dictated by the southern portion of a wide cyclone. The sky will be cloudy and many parts of the country will experience some precipitation – wet snow and snow. Eastern parts of Latvia may experience freezing rain in the afternoon. Roads will be slippery, so drivers are urged to be careful!
The wind will blow from the south and south-west. Wind speed may be high along the coast. Air temperature will stay within -1° C… +4° C (-2° C… -5° C in eastern regions).
On Tuesday night the sky will be cloudy. They will disperse come daylight, however. Some precipitation is expected in most of Latvia at night – rain. Central regions will experience wet snow and snow. Eastern regions may experience freezing rain. Roads will become slippery. In the second half of the night and morning hours visibility will be limited due to mist.
Slow to moderate south-western and southern wind will change direction to north and north-west during the day.
Air temperature at night is expected to be -1° C… +4° C (0° C… -5° C in eastern regions). Daytime air temperature will reach 0° C… +5° C.
On the night to Wednesday cyclone influence will decrease and a high atmospheric pressure area will pass through Latvia from the north-west: the sky will clear up, no precipitation is expected and air temperature will stay at -1° C… -5° C along the coast and -5° C… -10° C in most of the country.
A new cyclone will approach Latvia from the north again, causing clouds to cover the sky again. A wide precipitation zone will pass through Latvia from the west, bringing wet snow and snow to most of the country. Some rain is expected in western areas. Air temperature will reach -1° C… +4° C during the day and remain at -1° C… -6° C at night.
In the second half of the week residents in Latvia can expect more precipitation – mostly wet snow and snow.
Wind speed will be slow and air temperature during the day and at night will be -2° C… +3° C. However, strong north-western wind will carry colder masses of air to the country on Friday, 28 January, causing air temperature to drop again.
