Meteorologists predict intensive precipitation and strong wind in Latvia this week

The thaw will continue this week. It will rain in Latvia every now and then. Air temperature during the day and at night will stay at 0° C… +8° C. The layer of snow will continue melting, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).
“Residents should keep in mind that snow and ice is expected to fall from roofs that weren’t previously cleared! The situation with rivers will be complicated as well. We continue monitoring the situation with water levels in various bodies of water. The cyclone will cause wind speed to go up. On Tuesday wind speed in all of Latvia will reach 15-19 m/sec. It is possible there will be some snow at the end of the week. Air temperature may drop below 0 C as well,” as mentioned in the report from LVĢMC.

At the beginning of the week the sky will be cloudy. On Monday, the 18th of December, there will be some rain.

On the night to Tuesday a new precipitation zone will approach the country, bringing rain to most of the country. Clouds will gradually disperse in western parts of the country and rain will calm down. The wind will blow from the west and south-west. On Monday the wind will be slow to moderate and will blow from the west and south-west. Wind speed may reach 20-22 m/sec along the coast in Latvia. Fog may form in areas with slow wind. Visibility will suffer! Daytime air temperature during the day and at night will be +1° C… +7° C, meteorologists say.
Weather conditions will not improve in the remaining week. Rain is expected, sometimes heavy. This will further complicate the situation in rivers. The wind will remain strong, especially along the coast. There is a possibility of air temperature going down on Christmas. It is also likely there will be some snowfall on the holiday. Meteorologists predict stable frosty weather and snowfall in Latvia’s eastern territories.
