Mayor of Ogre Egils Helmanis injured during shelling in Ukraine

Last night, Egils Helmanis (National Alliance), Mayor of Ogre Municipality, was injured during shelling in Ukraine, the municipality’s Head of Communications, Patriks Grīva, confirmed to the LETA news agency.

Sources in Ukraine have informed the municipality that the mayor’s condition is stable.

Grīva stated that since the end of last week, Helmanis has been on a working trip to Ukraine, delivering around 20 vehicles filled with humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people, together with like-minded companions.

“The exact number of vehicles and their destination in Ukraine is disclosed only after the cargo reaches its final point. This is done to prevent information from falling into enemy hands,” Grīva explained.

He added that Helmanis travels to Ukraine with aid for the army and civilians every few months.

At present, Grīva has no information indicating that other municipal employees accompanied Helmanis on this trip, unlike previous missions.
