Kurzeme District Court in Latvia has sentenced a man to life in prison for the murder of his 92-year-old acquaintance, as confirmed by the prosecution office.
According to the prosecution, on the 22nd of September 2022, the accused, being under the influence of psychotropic substances, broke into the victim’s apartment with the intent of stealing the pensioner’s money. The accused used the victim’s helpless state,
stabbed her 15 times.
After murdering the victim, the accused stole the pensioner’s wallet, which contained EUR 770. The prosecutor requested life sentence for the accused. Because the court complied with this request, the prosecutor has no plans to ask the court to prepare the full text of the sentence.
This is the second life sentence presented in Latvia for the murder of a pensioner so far this year. At the beginning of the year Riga City Court sentenced a 74-year-old man to life in prison for the murder of his 85-year-old acquaintance. On the 3rd of April 2022 the man, while under influence of alcohol and anger, stabbed the woman at least 22 times in different parts of her body.
