The criminal case in which 14th Saeima deputy Gloria Grevcova is accused of lying to the Central Election Commission (CVK) will be reviewed by Riga City Vidzeme Suburb Court on 20 December.
Grevcova is not allowed to leave the country. Additionally, she is required to report decision to change addresses to authorities.
Since she refused to comment on criminal charges, the decision was made to hand the case to a court of justice under general procedure, as noted by the prosecution office.
At the same time, a criminal procedure in which a state official in the accused party has priority over all other criminal procedures to be reviewed by courts of law.
Despite the charges against her, Grevcova will still be able to continue serving as Saeima deputy.
Rules of Order of Saeima state that a deputy found guilty of a crime is considered excluded from the parliament the day the guilty verdict comes in force. Latvia that a three-instance court of law system.
The aforementioned crime is punishable with deprivation of freedom from 15 days to three months, 40 to 280 hours of community service, or a fine of up to 100 minimal wage amounts in Latvia.
On 7 October 2022 Latvian State Police commenced a criminal procedure in accordance with Section 272 of the Criminal Law over possible reporting of false information to CVK.
The pre-trial investigation determined that Grevcova as a 14th Saeima deputy reported false information about herself to CVK. This includes information about her employment situation and education. Several witnesses were interviewed as part of this criminal procedure. Several institutions provided useful information for the investigation. One person is considered a suspect and is presented with security measures not involving deprivation of freedom.
As previously reported by TV3 News, Gloria Grevcova from the party For Stability! Lied to CVK about her employment situation. She also provided false information about her education.
She told CVK that she graduated with higher education from Latvian Academy of Sport Education in 2013.
LSPA public relations head Ilze Āķe-Vīksne, on the other hand, Grevcova’s name cannot be found among the graduates or students of the academy.
