International passenger carried Lux Express announced that the bus price from Riga International Airport to the city centre will cost EUR 8, as Latvian Minister Kaspars Briškens wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He said that from now on clients of Riga International Airport will have more opportunities to travel from the airport to the city centre. The public transport stop within the airport’s territory was moved. Now there is a separate parking place for Bolt taxis and an opportunity to use official taxi services at the meter rate.
“It is also planned to introduce a price ceiling for taxis,” the minister added.
He stressed that a voucher is yet another option that can be used by people who want a fixed-price trip.
Earlier, the Road Transport Directorate (ATD) informed that the opening of a commercial route from Riga Airport to the capital city centre will be considered at the next meeting of the Public Transport Council. Lux Express, on the other hand, said that transportation between Riga Airport and the city centre could start this year before the summer.
It is also reported that from the 11th of April onward taxi vouchers are sold at Riga International Airport’s Visitor Centre for trips from the airport to the city centre and Pārdaugav.
Passengers will be able to use pre-purchased vouchers in taxis of service providers that have a permit to operate from the airport – Xtaxi and TaksiLV. These taxis are located on the first line near the exit from the Arrivals Terminal. The price of a single voucher is EUR 33.5.
The zone covered by vouchers includes between K. Valdemāra, Skanstes, Lāčplēsis and Valmieras streets to Tallinas Street in the centre of Riga, as well as the area from K. Ulmana Street all the way to Kurzeme Avenue in Pārdaugava.
Vouchers are not allowed to be used to pay for trips in taxis of other brands and carriers.
Passengers who do not want to use vouchers for trips from the airport will still be able to pay for the trip according to the time and distance rates set by each taxi carrier, choose public transport, shared car service or leave the airport with their own car or the car of the people waiting for them upon arrival.
