Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has asked three ministers to step down – Minister of Education Anda Čakša. Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens and Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis, LSM.LV reports with reference to information available to LTV.
BNN previously reported that after their meeting with Evika Siliņa, representatives of Progressives Party and Union of Greens and Farmers refrained from revealing the results of discussions regarding the possible “restart” of the Latvian government.
Both politicians told journalists that this topic will be discussed with their respective parties’ management boards and Saeima factions at a later date.
Andris Šuvajevs (Progressives) did not say if his party was offered to replace one of their ministers. At the same time he said, his party is still prepared to continue working in the existing coalition.
Union of Greens and Farmers representative Viktors Valainis told journalists that the PM presented at the meeting her proposal for a possible government “restart” and future priorities.
Valainis mentioned that there are things his party agrees with in terms of the PM’s proposal, adding that his party has urged her to be more decisive and make decisions in certain topics.
Aside from Šuvajevs and Valainis, the meeting with the Latvian Prime Minister was also attended by Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze and Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce.
LETA previously reported that Siliņa has promised a “restart” of the government’s work, adding that it may include the replacement of some minister. No detailed information was provided. Instead it was promised to present more information this week.
This week, the PM concluded talks with all ministers about the government’s priorities for this year.
