Lithuania rejects attempt to lower country’s high legal drinking age

In the Lithuanian Seimas, legislators have rejected amendments to country’s strict rules on the sale of alcoholic beverages, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
Under the current rules, the legal drinking age in the Baltic country’s is set at 20. Supermarkets can sell alcohol from 10:00 to 20:00 Mondays to Fridays and from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sundays.
Arguing that the rules are too strict, Lithuania’s ruling conservative-liberal coalition drafted amendments to the respective laws and offered proposals to lower legal drinking age back to 18 and extend the alcohol selling time.
