Lithuania records 300 GPS interference incidents in one month

The Lithuanian Air Traffic Authority “Oro Navigacija” received more than 300 GPS jamming reports from pilots in March alone, a company spokeswoman told the portal LRT.lt on Monday, the 31st of March, reports LRT.lt.

The comment followed the latest case when on Saturday evening a Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Vilnius Airport was forced to abort its landing due to GPS interference, according to the pilots.

The plane landed safely on the second attempt.

“GPS signal interference does not cause any major problems because pilots can follow the signals of our ground-based equipment, which allows them to take off and land accurately and safely,” Ingrida Daugirde of Oro Navigacija told LRT.lt.

Officials in the Baltic States have previously reported that GPS interference is affecting civil air navigation near the Russian and Belarusian borders.
