Latvia’s PM says he is prepared to lead the government again

The current Prime Minister of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš says he is prepared to become PM again and lead the new government.
When asked if he is prepared to take charge over the new government, Kariņš said yes. He said he is confident he can form a working coalition and secure majority support from the Saeima.
On Tuesday, 4 October, New Unity plans to reach out and speak with other political parties that made it to the 14th Saeima, said the politician.
New Unity is prepared to speak with representatives from the Combined List parties, National Alliance and Progressive Party to discuss future tasks of the new government.
When asked if the coalition could consist of three or four of the aforementioned parties, Kariņš mentioned ‘it would be best for the country’ to have a large coalition, which would ensure greater stability and higher probability of the government lasting the whole four-year term.

Considering everything reported so far, Kariņš said he does not see any internal conflicts in those parties that would prevent them from reaching an agreement.

The PM said he primary topic right now is discussing the most important topics left from the previous government.
On 3 October, during his meeting with President Egils Levits, the two discussed New Unity’s chosen path to secure majority support in the Saeima, explained Kariņš.
According to the PM

the next government in Latvia will have to share the previous government’s vision in regards to the country’s development, security, economic development and transition of the education system that will promote a more competitive national economy.

Seven parties were elected to the new Saeima – New Unity, Union of Greens and Farmers, Combined List, National Alliance, For Stability!, Latvia in First Place and Progressive Party.
A total of 916 594 voters or 59.43% of registered voters participated in 14th Saeima elections. A total of 1 055 election sites were open during elections. General turnout was higher than during 13th and 12th Saeima elections.
