Latvia’s parliament invites government to review officials’ wages

Saeima’s press-service reports that on Thursday, the 12th of January, the legislator asked the Cabinet of Ministers to review the system for remuneration of top state officials based on the current economic situation in the country.
The decision was made after receiving the collective application signed by 10 434 citizens. This document suggests freezing wages of opt state officials.

The report with result of the government’s evaluation should be submitted to the Saeima no later than the 15th of April this year.

Authors of the initiative invite freezing the wages of the state president, Saeima speaker, prime minister, parliamentary secretaries, ministers and Saeima deputies until the economic situation in the country has stabilised – inflation has stopped, inflation has stabilised at a reasonable level, and the crisis with gas and electricity prices has been overcome.
