Latvian Traders Association (LTA) reports that currently, as compared with Q3, there is a slight price drop observed in the country across most product groups. A slight increase is observed for grain and bread products. Prices are up for tomatoes and cucumbers as well.
In its announcement to the media, the organisation reminds that it performs regular price comparisons across stores. Additionally, price comparisons also include discounts.
Looking at prices across the year, LTA estimates the price of milk, kefir, cream and butter has increased by 30-33%. Prices of various kinds of cheese have increased by 50%. Prices of curd and derived products have increased by 20%. There was also a 30% increase for egg and cooking oil prices. Mayonnaise became 45% more expensive over the course of the year.
Prices of meat products have increased by 17-50% over the course of the year. The biggest increase was observed for broiler (by 50%), whereas the smallest was observed for sausages (by 17%).
In the bread and animal feed group there was a price increase across all categories when compared with December 2021.
The biggest increase was observed for while bread, the price of which averages at EUR 1.46 as opposed to EUR 0.57 (an increase of 150%).
Prices of fruits and vegetables have increased the most for tomatoes (+78%). Prices have dropped for apples (-23%) and potatoes (-2%). In this group prices have increased the most for other fruits: from 4% for kiwis to 49% for bananas. In the vegetables group the increase was similar: from 21% for cucumbers to 42% for cabbages and carrots.
In the beverages group prices have dropped for juices and champagne. A slight increase (around 20%) is observed for mineral water. A price leap (90%) was observed for Coca-Cola. Prices of various kinds of tea have increased from 11% to 37%. The price of coffee has increased by 73%.
