Latvian State Police checks ex-MEP Mamikin’s homophobic post about Rinkēvičs

Latvian State Police (VP) has commenced an inspection of a social media post from ex-MEP Andrejs Mamikins’ about the election of Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs as the next President of Latvia.
Today godlessness won in presidential elections in Latvia. Shame and misery @edgarsrinkevics. Change the lyrics of the anthem to “where Latvian gays sing…” God won’t bless Latvia any more,“ Mamikins wrote on Twitter.

The Criminal Law provides criminal liability for triggering national, ethnic, racial or religious hatred or enmity and for public desecration of the national anthem of Latvia.

As previously reported, on the 31st of May New Unity candidate, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs was elected as the next President of Latvia. In 2014 Rinkēvičs revealed on Twitter that he is gay.
