After their meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, neither Co-Chairman of Progressives party Andris Šuvajevs nor Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis (Union of Greens and Farmers) revealed the results of discussions of the possible “restart” of the Latvian government.
Both politicians told journalists that the situation will be discussed within their respective Saeima factions and party boards.
After his meeting with the Latvian PM, Šuvajevs did not say if his party was offered any ministry. At the same time, he said Progressives are prepared to continue working in the existing coalition.
Valainis told journalists that the Prime Minister has presented coalition partners with an offer for a possible government “restart” and future objectives.
ZZS will decide how “fair and balanced” this offer is will be decided at the party’s management board and faction meeting, said Valainis. The representative of ZZS was evasive when asked if his party could decline the PM’s offer. “This should be viewed in a complex manner,” he said, stressing that the PM is currently using her opportunities in team-making.
According to Valainis, there are things Siliņa has offered that ZZS agrees with, because the party has urged the PM to be more decisive and make decisions in specific issues.
Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze, the aforementioned Valainis and Šuvajevs, as well as Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce attended the meeting with the Latvian Prime Minister.
LETA previously reported that Siliņa has promised a “restart” of the government’s work, adding that it may include the replacement of some minister. No detailed information was provided. Instead it was promised to present more information this week.
This week, the PM concluded talks with all ministers about the government’s priorities for this year.
