Latvian prime minister candidate announced agreed distribution of seats in new government

16 seats in the newly-composed government and eight in the Saeima will go to New Unity (JV), five will go to the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), and three will go to the Progressive Party (PRO), as announced by prime minister candidate Evika Siliņa after her meeting with President Of Latvia Edgars Rinkevičs on Wednesday, the 13th of September.
According to her, JV will get the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development.
This means Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens, Minister of Justice Inese Lībiņa-Egnere and Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša will get to keep their posts. Krišjānis Kariņš will become the next Minister of Foreign Affairs and Rihards Kozlovskis will become the Minister of the Interior. Saeima deputy Inga Bērziņa will become the next Minister of Environment Protection and Regional Development. The post of Minister of Health will be entrusted to physician, Saeima deputy Hosams Abu Meri.

ZZS will take over the seat of the Saeima speaker, as well as the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Welfare and Ministry of Climate and Energy.

ZZS will propose the once chairman of the Constitutional Court Gunārs Kūtris for the post of Saeima speaker, ZZS Saeima faction chairman Viktors Valainis for the post of Minister of Economy, Saeima deputy Armands Krauze for the post of Minister of Agriculture, Saeima deputy Uldis Augulist for the post of Minister of Welfare, and Kaspars Melnis for the post of Minister of Climate and Energy.

The Progressive Party will take over the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Transport.

The party proposes Riga City Council deputy Agnese Logina for the post of Ministry of Culture, Saeima European Affairs Committee member Andris Sprūds for the post of Minister of Defence, and Saeima faction leader Kaspars Briškens for the post of Minister of Transport.
The new coalition has 52 votes in the parliament. Independent Saeima deputy and chairman of Honour to Serve Riga party Oļegs Burovs has also promised to support this coalition. His party has agreed to cooperate with ZZS.
The vote for the approval of the new party in the Saeima is planned for Friday, the 15th of September.
