Latvian president promises next PM will have «a reasonable policy to achieve Latvia’s security»

After 14th Saeima elections, when looking at potential candidates for the post of Prime Minister of Latvia, President Egils Levits said he intends to look for candidates that offer «a specific, reasonable policy» to make Latvia safer and more resistant to crises.
During his traditional speech for the closure of Saeima’s spring session, the president stressed the next Saeima’s political background will feature Russia’s threats to the west, the democratic world’s cessation from the use of Russian energy resources and the inflation that will follow, painfully impacting residents and companies – all of these topics will dictate state priorities, he said.
Levits mentioned three areas related to state security – state defence and domestic security, which also includes problems related to public integration, energy crisis and the state policy related to it to help benefit residents and state management system to better manage resources and respond to crises.
The president urged every party to include specific solutions for these directions in their programmes. He also urged voters to look at the solutions proposed by parties when deciding who to vote for later this year.
14th Saeima elections will take place in Latvia on 1 October.
