Latvian State Police have detained the man who may have been the one who threw a firebomb into the office of the head of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia Solvita Vība, as confirmed by Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis.
The minister expressed gratitude for the professional work done by the State Security Service and State Police in identifying and apprehending this person.
The minister believes the result of professional work is not only the successful detainment of this person, but also the speed at which it happened, especially despite the perpetrator’s careful preparations.
“The contribution from Riga municipal police and RPP Video Surveillance Centre was invaluable in the successful investigation of this crime,” said the minister.
Police have commenced a criminal procedure based on Section 185 Part 2 of the Criminal Law, according to which the crime in question is punishable with a prison sentence of up to ten years.
Kozlovskis notes that this crime should be viewed in the context of hybrid war threats, under which we are currently living, adding that crimes like that present a serious threat to national security. He hopes this crime will be judged with all the severity of the law and the punishment will be appropriate to the offence.
