Parties forming the new government in Latvia may complete their work on the government declaration in the next couple of weeks. After that the Saeima may vote on the approval of the new Cabinet of Minister, said New Unity leader Krišjānis Kariņš after his meeting with President Egils Levits on 22 November.
New Unity, Combined List and National Alliance have developed a draft for the government declaration. Work is set to continue this week and, if necessary, next week, said Kariņš.
The PM predicts he will be able to present to the Saeima the full list of government members in a couple of weeks.
Kariņš once again said the goal of the next government will be to ensure wide transformation of the economy. To accomplish that, it will be necessary to develop several sectors, including security, education, energy, competitiveness, as well as quality of life.
New Unity’s leader said work on the declaration will continue every day. Multiple meetings may be organised every day if need be. Politicians are working on compromises in order to outline the main tasks for the transformation of the economy, said the politician.
«Our priority is reaching an agreement on a valid and good programme,» said Kariņš,
stressing that it is better to spend a day longer in discussions in order to secure the best possible outcome for the country than it is to rush processes.
When asked about concerns from the Combined List about the reflection of the environmental sector in the declaration, the PM said he is confident a compromise will be found. He also reminded that most of the environment-related topics will remain the responsibility of the existing ministry.
