Latvia’s Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš ordered ministries and the State Chancellery to prepare for energy austerity measures for the upcoming heating season, as confirmed by the PM’s press-secretary.
Kariņš argues Russia continues its brutal war in Ukraine and tries to weaken and split European Union member states using blackmail and energy resources.
«Russia will fail if we unite and overcome difficulties together. This is why I have ordered all ministers and the State Chancellery to prepare for energy austerity measures,» the PM reported.
The PM has ordered all ministers and State Chancellery Director Jānis Citskovskis to submit to the Ministry of Economics information about ministries’ and their subordinated institutions’ energy austerity plans for the upcoming heating season.
Minister of Economics Ilze Indriksone is ordered to compile information from ministries and develop guidelines for energy austerity measures this year.
These guidelines are planned to be submitted to the government for review.
