Latvian parties may restart coalition negotiations next week

Political parties may restart negotiations regarding the future of the ruling coalition next week, as LETA was told.
Due to the government’s vacation, no official meetings between parties are planned this week.
Following Latvian PM Krišjānis Kariņš’s initiative, the government initiated talks with other parties regarding various important topics shortly after the election of Latvia’s new president.

The PM’s goal is expanding the coalition.

Negotiations are attended by New Unity (JV), Union of Greens and Farmers and Progressive Party.

The Combined List and National Alliance boycott these negotiations because both parties object to the possible expansion of the coalition, which currently consists of New Unity, Combined List and National Alliance.

The future of the government should become clear by the middle of August, said Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens.
In the first two weeks of August it is planned for parties to meet and decide on important government affairs, said the JV member.
