Weather in Latvia will be calm this weekend – the sun will shine every now and then and no serious precipitation is expected. Nights will become colder and the wind will be strong mostly in coastal regions, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
But the weather will become more unstable next week. Multiple cyclones from the west will bring windy and precipitation-rich weather to the country.
On Friday, 11 February, weather in Latvia will be dictated by low atmospheric pressure area. At night weather will be cloudy with moments of clear sky. Some areas will experience precipitation. Roads may become slippery, meteorologists warn.
Meteorologists note the wind will blow from the west and south-west. Minimal air temperature will be at -2° C… +3° C. During the day the amount of clouds will be volatile and precipitation is expected in many areas. There will be snow and wet snow in most of the country and rain in Kurzeme. The wind will blow from the west and north-west. Air temperature will reach +1° C… +4° C.
On Saturday the northern portion of a wide anticyclone will increase. No significant amount of precipitation is expected.
Certain sections of the road will be slippery!
The wind will blow from the west and north-west. In Kurzeme wind speed will reach 15-17 m/sec. Night-time air temperature will be at -2° C… -7° C (+1° C… -2° C along the coast), whereas daytime air temperature will be close to 0° C… +4° C.
For Sunday meteorologists predict a wide cyclone will gradually pass through Scandinavia in Latvia’s direction. Atmospheric pressure will gradually drop and there will be more clouds. The sky will clear up from time to time. Days and nights will pass without considerable precipitation. The wind will be moderate to strong and will blow from the south and south-west, reaching a speed of 15-17 m/sec along the coast. Minimal air temperature at night will be -2° C… -7° C (+1° C… -2° C along the coast), whereas maximum air temperature during the day will not go above -1° C… +3° C.
Cyclone activity will be dictating weather in Latvia next week. With atmospheric pressure down, weather conditions will become unstable again – the volume of precipitation will increase and their phases will change from rain to wet snow during the day and snow at night. The wind will be strong as well. Air temperature will vary from +1° C… -3° at night and +1° C… +6° C during the day.
