Energy resources in Latvia’s internal affairs department will be saved by reducing lighting intensity. There are also plans to shut down hot water supplies as well.
Provision State Agency (NVA) press spokesperson Vendija Pikše-Kučma said that due to the outlooks regarding the expected energy price surge this winter, NVA has commenced preparations in order to reduce energy resource consumption and promote austerity at the institution and the internal affairs sector in general.
Informative guidelines have been prepared. Reminders for workers and visitors are prepared as well. These include the requirement to switch lights off after leaving and disconnecting devices not in active use.
Already workers and visitors are urged to use the stairs. Elevators are permitted to carry disabled people or heavy items.
Lighting intensity will be reduced in common rooms and lighting of buildings will be switched off at night.
Wherever possible hot water supply will be shut off. Employees will be urged to be more thrifty with regard to the use of additional appliances, such as electric kettles, microwave ovens and refrigerators, and to use them only when necessary.
NVA together with all workers of the internal affairs department assess it will be possible to save up to 10% of consumed energy resources.
