Latvian government to partially compensate growing electricity tariffs to households

From October and until the end of 2023 Latvian households will receive a 60% compensation of the Sadales tīkls (ST) fixed capacity charge, or so-called capacity subscription.
This decision was announced on Monday, the 18th of September, by Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis and Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens.
Submission of relevant legislative amendments to the Saeima is planned to be decided on at the next government meeting.

Ministries have until the 1st of November to come up with a solution to help reduce tariff growth for private persons next year, Siliņa said.

Previously new and proportionally larger ST tariffs caused an uproar among many residents in Latvia.
The 1st of July marked the coming into force of new electricity system service tariffs of Sadales tīkls and distribution system operator Augstsprieguma tīkls.
The influence of new tariffs on households differs depending on depending on the connection parameters and consumption, including the charge, it shall be determined whether there is a single-phase (1F) or three-phase (3F) connection, whether the load is 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A, 40A or more, as well as the kilowatt hours consumed (kWh).
The company mentioned that for apartment owners who have 1F connection and consumption is 100 kWh a month, the monthly electricity bill has increased by five to seven euros (excluding VAT). The increase is as high for private house owners who have a 1F connection and electricity consumption of 125 kWh a month.
The growth of electricity bills for private house owners with 3F connection varies depending on the chosen load. For 3F connection (16A or 20A) electricity bills have increased by approximately 12-15 euro (excluding VAT), whereas for 3A connection with a load of 25A or higher, the increase is approximately 18 euros or more (excluding VAT).
