The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) of the Republic of Latvia has ordered the removal of “Nateo D pilieni Forte” D-vitamin supplement from commercial circulation, as confirmed by PVD representatives.
PVD reports that this decision was made after a report was received from the Children’s Clinical University Hospital about multiple D-vitamin intoxication cases among children.
PVD ordered the removal of “Nareo D pilieni Forte” (batch Nr. 26230) manufactured by Sagitus LLC from commercial circulation.
The vitamin supplement will be tested in a laboratory to see if the concentration of D-vitamin does not exceed what is indicated on the label. Residents are asked to refrain from using this product until the end of the investigation, PVD representatives add.
Referencing the statement from PVD, Latvian pharmacological company Sagitus confirmed that its D-vitamin supplement “Nateo D pilieni Forte” batch Nr. 262301 (solution in oil with indicated dose of 25μg or 1000 IU in 1 drop) is under investigation.
The company would like to clarity, however, that they have received a report from BKUS about a case when a child was found to have increased D-vitamin level from using the aforementioned product. The company adds that it cooperates with PVD to ensure the product in question is safe for human consumption.
Sagitus reports that sales of the product are on hold.
“Sun hormone or D-vitamin is indispensable for maintaining the health of almost all organs – it is especially necessary for the normal development and growth of a child’s bones and teeth, the normal functioning of the immune system and maintaining muscle function. At the same time, it is important to follow the instructions for use attached to the products with the indicated daily doses in order to be confident in the daily use of the correct dose of D-vitamin,” stresses Sagitus board member Pēteris Zvaigzne.
