The Pamirs expedition team of the Latvian Mountaineering Union Clubs, led by Valdis Purins, brought down two critically ill climbers from other countries from an altitude of 6,300 meters on Sunday, the 27th of July, the LETA agency was informed by the climbers’ representatives.
The Turkish climber, who was left alone in a tent with altitude sickness, had been in a darkened state of consciousness in the tent for two days. Latvian climbers Purins and Edgars Madžulis were closest to the victim and delivered the necessary medications and oxygen to him.
Upon reaching the 6,300-meter high camp, the Latvian climbers learned that a Lithuanian climber had gone to the summit alone at 3 p.m. that same day, and had not returned by 10 p.m.
Latvian climbers went in the dark to search for the missing person,
who was found 200 meters above the camp in a helpless state and brought him to the camp tent.
The next day, the Latvian climbing team jointly brought both victims to the base camp of the Korzhenevskaya and Somoni peaks.
In addition to Puriņš and Madžulis, the Latvian climbing team also includes Edgars Ozols, Mārtiņš Sudārs and Matīss Grāvītis.
