Latvia signs 164 million euros-worth contract for supply of HIMARS artillery platform

Latvia has signed a contract with US for the procurement of HIMARS missile artillery system and munitions. The total price of the contract is EUR 180 million (EUR 164.2 million), as confirmed by Latvian Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.
Latvian National Armed Forces will also receive ATACMS long-distance and high-accuracy missiles. This is expected to increase Latvian army’s firepower. This is one more step by Latvia to further enhance strategic partnership with US and develop NATO’s defensive capabilities, the minister stresses.

HIMARS may arrive in Latvia in 2026/2027, as journalists were told by then the state secretary to the Ministry of Defence Jānis Garisons in September.

Previously Latvia also signed a contract for the supply of anti-ship missile system Naval Strike Missile. This contract’s price reaches USD 105 million (EUR 97.4 million). The biggest portion of this price will be covered by US. Naval Strike Missile is manufactured by US company Raytheon and Norwegian company Kongsberg.
It is planned for Naval Strike Missile system to be fully delivered by 2027.
On the 30th of November Latvian Ministry of Defence signed a contract for the procurement of medium-range anti-air system IRIS-T. The contract signed with German Diehl Defence costs approximately EUR 600 million. The system is expected to be supplied to Latvia in 2026.
