Latvia is prepared to defend its electrical system in case of any sabotage attempts by Russia, confirmed “Augstsprieguma tīkls” board chairman Rolands Irklis in an interview with Latvijas Radio, as reported by public media outlet LSM.LV.
He explained that after disconnecting from the Russian energy grid, the aggressor state no longer has the ability to harm Latvia through its electricity system. Although Latvia’s power grid is now physically disconnected from Russia, there is still a risk of physical or cyber-attacks on infrastructure.
“Augstsprieguma tīkls” continues to enhance its capabilities to protect infrastructure and restore system components as quickly as possible in case of damage.
Irklis assessed that a month after the disconnection from the Russian energy grid, the situation remains stable.
