The Latvian Health Ministry has drafted amendments to law to permit the sale of Covid-19 vaccine doses to other countries.
In order to manage the Latvian Covid-19 vaccine stock efficiently, the terms of expiry of each batch of vaccines are checked regularly in vaccine warehouses. The Health Ministry seeks to avoid a situation, when the term of expiry runs out, while other countries do not have a sufficient number of vaccine doses.
Currently, Latvia does not have appropriate rules in place to organise the sale of the vaccines as the conditions of contracts with vaccine manufacturers and the European Commission also have to be taken into account.

According to the amendments drafted by the Health Ministry submitted to the Saeima, it is proposed to amend the Latvian Law on the Management of the Spread of the Covid-19 Infection so that the requirements of the Law on the Expropriation of Public Property would not have to be applied. The decision on selling Covid-19 vaccine doses would be looked at separately and made by the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers.
The funds acquired from the sale of Covid-19 vaccines abroad would be transferred to the state budget.
