Cooperation with the administration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump will be close and convincing, Foreign Minister Braiba Braže (JV) said in an interview on Latvian Television’s “Rīta panorāma” programme.
She stressed that, regardless of the US administration, the relationship between Americans and Baltics is extremely strong, stemming from both historical experience and a similar perception of the level of threat in the world today.
“Cooperation with the Trump administration will be close and strong. We will work regardless of who is elected”, she said.
She acknowledged that the US will need to build relationships with new figures within the new administration and political leadership.
Latvia and the Baltic States must continue to invest in their own security and defence, Braže said, without commenting on whether and what Trump could do to end the war in Ukraine.
