In January’s popularity polls for elections in Riga, Ainārs Šlesers’ party “Latvia in First Place” was in the lead, followed by “Progressives” and the “National Alliance”, according to results of a survey by SKDS for LTV.
Respondents were asked which party they would vote for if Riga City Council elections happened tomorrow:
12% would vote for Latvia in First Place, 10.7% would vote for Progressives, and 8.7% would vote for the National Alliance.
Harmony is in fourth place with 8% support, New Unity is fifth with 6.7% of support.
5.8% of respondents said they would for “For Stability!”. Honour to Serve Riga/Union of Greens and Farmers would receive support from 4.4% of voters if elections happened tomorrow.
3.2% of voters would support the Combined List, 2.5% would support For Latvia’s Development, and 2.2% of respondents would support Sovereign Power.
The survey concluded that seven parties would pass the 5% barrier: Latvia in First Place, Progressives, National Alliance, Harmony, New Unity, For Stability!, Honour to Serve Riga/National Alliance. The Combined List, on the other hand, balances on the edge.
Only 1.2% of respondents would vote for other parties. 26.1% of respondents said they don’t know who they would vote for. Another 9% of respondents said they have no plans to participate in elections.
554 Riga residents participated in the survey.
Municipal elections will take place in June.
Currently the ruling coalition in Riga City Council includes New Unity, National Alliance/Latvian Association of Regions, Code for Riga group, Honour to Serve Riga and For Latvia’s Development, as well as independent deputies and former associates of Progressives from Par movement.
The opposition consists of Progressives, Harmony, Latvian Russians Association and multiple independent deputies.
