Ukrainian soldiers are starting to build positions on the eastern bank of the Dnieper, which is partly controlled by Russia, and they could be important for future attacks, the BBC writes.
The US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has informed in its latest report that Russian military bloggers have published quite a lot of videos with geolocation tags to confirm the Ukrainian advance. The BBC Ukraine studio reports that military sources have informed of some advances across the Dnieper near Kherson.
The Ukrainian army has not confirmed the movement, and the Russian army denies that the Ukrainians crossed the river.
However,
military experts point out that Ukrainian movement across the river, which is covered by floodplains, canals, and other obstacles, will be difficult
while strengthening on the opposite bank will be hampered by Russian air attacks.
In the report published on Sunday, the 23rd of April, ISW stated that a geotagged video recording shows that Ukrainians are carrying out activities on the east bank of the Dnieper. The institute noted that there is not enough information to determine the extent of the advance or further plans for the Ukrainian military.
Nataliya Humenyuk, a spokeswoman for the Southern Command of the Ukrainian Army, neither denied nor confirmed reports of Ukrainian forces being on the east bank of the Dnieper. She informed that hard work continues and stressed that military operations should be carried out without public announcements until it is safe for the army to release the information.
