Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said he will not accept US President Donald Trump’s call for unconditional surrender, Reuters reports.
A statement read by a television announcer said neither peace nor war could be imposed on the Islamic Republic. It was Khamenei’s first public statement since the 13th of June. He said that wise people who know Iran, know its people and history will never speak to Iran in threatening language, because they know that the Iranian people will not surrender. He added that Americans should know that any US military intervention will bring irreparable harm.
Thousands of people fled Tehran on the 18th of June. Israeli warplanes bombed the country throughout the night, and sources said
Trump is considering various options, including joining Israel in strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The Israeli military said 50 fighter jets had struck 20 targets in Tehran, including facilities that produce raw materials, components and production lines for missiles.
Meanwhile, Iran has warned Washington that the US will face consequences if it decides to directly join Israel’s strikes. Iran’s UN ambassador, Ali Bahreini, has said that it is clear that the US is supporting Israel’s actions.
