Last week, the spread of influenza in Latvia increased slightly. A total 52 people died within about two months or nine weeks with a confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis, according to data collected by the Disease Prevention and Control Centre (SPKC).
Last week, 42 cases of influenza were recorded in GP practices, which is 19 more than the previous week. Influenza cases have been registered in Daugavpils, Jelgava, Liepaja, Riga and Valmiera region. In Valmiera municipality, cases of influenza have been recorded in five patients from one household.
Influenza intensity went up slightly last week. Nevertheless, it is still considered very low, SPKC reports.
Last week, 44 Covid-19 cases were laboratory-confirmed, which is 15 cases less than the week before.
During the week, 763 tests were performed, which is 10% less than in the previous week. The percentage of positive tests reached 5.8%, less than a week earlier.
With Covid-19 infection, 37 new patients were hospitalized, which is three more than a week in advance. In total, 76 patients with Covid-19 infection were treated in hospitals last week, of which 51.3% had this infection as their primary diagnosis. Two patients had a severe course of the disease.
In the previous week, two deaths were recorded in patients diagnosed with Covid-19.
