In Ukrainian border region, 70 Ukrainian soldiers killed in air strike; Kyiv holds, Herson surrounded

On the night to Tuesday, March 1, Russian forces invading Ukraine have been attacking the Okhtyrka town with missiles in north-easter Ukraine. More than 70 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, public broadcaster Ukrinform reports.
The news was announced by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Dmytro Zhyvytskyy. «A military base in Okhtyrka sustained a heavy enemy shelling from Grad multiple rocket systems and, unfortunately, was completely destroyed. More than 70 servicepersons have been killed. There are civilian casualties. The blockages are being dismantled now and more dead servicemen may be found under them».

According to him, as of the night of Tuesday, March 1, the situation in the north of the region was more or less stable, but the town of Konotop remains under siege, Ukrinform reports.
British public broadcaster BBC reported that Kyiv remains under Ukrainian control. The city of Herson, however, has been almost surrounded. In Kharkiv Russian air strikes have killed dozens of civilians. On Tuesday, the south-eastern city of Mariupol is under attack, BBC reports.
