An employee of Latvian State Police was detained in Latgale this week. This person provided residents with access to television programmes banned in Latvia in exchange for money, as reported by the Internal Security Bureau (IDB).
The suspect was presented with security measures not involving deprivation of freedom.
More information about the investigation is not available at this time. IDB does say that it was found out that the suspect, in addition to his service in the police, was providing TV access services to private persons, specifically access to TV programmes banned in Latvia.
IDB has also performed a number of additional investigative tasks, during which it was possible to confirm the police worker’s involvement in illegal activities.
IDB notes that the function of pirate TV programmes has been shut down since the suspect’s detainment.
