Hot weather alternates with rain: thunderstorms, fog, and hail possible in Latvia in the coming days

On Tuesday, skies will be partly cloudy, and thunderclouds will form in some areas. In the southern parts of the country, heavy rain showers are expected, with a possibility of hail, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

During the night, light winds and local fog in some areas will reduce visibility. During the day, a light northerly wind will blow, becoming gusty during thunderstorms. At night, air temperatures will drop to +14…+19°C, and in some western areas even down to +12…+13°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to +22…+27°C, with slightly cooler conditions along the Gulf of Riga coast – around +19…+22°C.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with only occasional glimpses of sunshine.

During the night into Wednesday, thunderstorms are expected in some places, and by day, they will spread to many parts of the country – with locally intense downpours. Thursday will bring more rain clouds, covering most of the country, and again in some areas heavy thunderstorms may occur.

Winds will remain light, allowing fog to form at night in some places.

Nighttime temperatures will range between +15…+19°C, and daytime temperatures will reach +21…+25°C, with coastal areas, as usual, being a few degrees cooler, according to the Meteorological Centre.

In the second half of the week, a new cyclone is expected to approach Latvia, continuing to influence the weather into the weekend. As a result, sunshine will alternate with clouds, which will bring rain across nearly the entire country, with thunder possible in some locations. Light winds will continue, but may intensify sharply during storms.

Air temperatures will remain similar, with daytime highs of +21…+26°C, though coastal areas will be cooler.
