Holiday expected to bring new temperature records to Latvia; thaw to continue next week

The end of the year will be overcast, rainy and windy in Latvia. In the middle of next week, however, low air temperatures will return to Latvia, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
New Year’s night and day may bring new air temperature records in Latvia.
Snow will continue thawing in the final days of 2022. On Friday, the 30th of December, weather in Latvia will be dictated by the south-eastern and eastern portions of an active cyclone. The sky will be mostly cloudy, many areas will experience rainfall. Eastern areas will experience snow and wet snow. The wind will be slow and will blow from the south-west and west. Wind speed may be high in coastal regions.

Air temperature will stay at 0° C… +6° C.

On Saturday, the 31st of December, no major changes in weather conditions are expected – rain in some areas and strong south-western, western wind the speed of which may reach 20 m/sec along the coast.
New Year’s Eve is expected to be overcast. Rain is also expected in most of the country. The wind will remain strong. Air temperature at night and the morning after New Year’s may reach +10° C. Meteorologists expect previous maximum air temperature records for the 31st of December and the 1st of January to be exceeded. The sky will remain cloudy on Monday. Rain is also expected in Latvia.
The first day of 2023 will pass without major weather changes – rain, wet snow and snow are expected in most of the country, wind speed will be high, and air temperature will remain above 0° C. In the middle of the week colder masses of air will flow to the country from the north-west. Air temperature will drop below 0° C for a couple of days and precipitation will calm down.
