“Reduce public pressure on the team at Pasažieru vilciens (PV), I’ve decided to step down from my post as chairman of the board of the company,” as confirmed by the man himself – Rodžers Jānis Grigulis.
Train traffic on Riga-Tukums and related lines was affected this morning. Railway traffic was successfully restored at 08:28 am (local time).
“The cause of this morning’s delay or cancellation is not related to the reliability of the new rolling stock. The problem is with the existing railway infrastructure.
There were power disruptions,”
said Grigulis.
The company notes that train timetable accuracy reached 98.6% in February. There are 17 new trains available for passenger service, and the number of passengers carried has been on a rise for the second consecutive month.
“The crisis is over. But this morning’s incident proves we cannot become lazy – each worker, from conductor to board member – has to act in accordance with the developed risk reduction plan with the highest degree of responsibility possible. Various incidents will remain in the transport sector regardless, and only coordinated work every day, hour or minute can ensure we can resolve problems in the best possible way,” explains Grigulis.
He also adds there are other challenges ahead. This includes the construction of a new repair centre, acceptance of the remaining electric trains from Škoda Vagonka, introduction of international railway trips and adoption of a new interval timetable.
“Each employee of “Pasažieru vilciens” responsibly and with high self-respect performed his duties, cooperated both in the company and with other industry participants, implementing and implementing the risk reduction plan, when the plan is successfully implemented, I decided to relieve public pressure and resign from the position of chairman of the board,” Grigulis explains.
He thanked his former colleagues for their cooperation, professionalism and support in everyday operations and crisis situations.
The company’s work is monitored by the council. Board members Aldis Daugavvanags and Raitis Nešpors, as well as more than 1 000 other people continue working in the company.
