The office of the German Economy Minister, Robert Habeck, reported receiving an envelope with a white substance of unknown origin, writes Reuters.
The initial examination by the police shows that the powder is finely ground sand, however further investigation is ongoing. Habeck’s office is in Flensburg, near the Danish border, and his subordinates informed the police about the envelope on the afternoon of Wednesday, the 24th of May. The police, in turn, called the fire brigade. The operation lasted two hours, and
firefighters took the envelope with the powder out of the building in a closed container.
Habeck’s ministry is responsible for the economy and energy, and he also holds the position of German vice chancellor. He creates a policy to reduce the impact of the war started by Russia.
However, Habeck’s rating in the polls has fallen following the scandal that arose in the ministry in connection with the promotion of friends and relatives to positions. Also, his insistence on switching to newer heating systems for residential houses undermines his popularity and causes criticism.
