Gas to be supplied to Latvia entirely from LNG terminals

Latvia’s unified natural gas transmission and storage operator Conexus Baltic Grid JSC (Conexus) reports: Latvia’s gas supplies will not be affected by the decision to cease supplies of natural gas from the Russian Federation. The reason is because the marked has successfully reoriented.
Supplies of natural gas are mainly organised from Klaipeda Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal. Next year there will be two alternative sources in the region: Inkoo SDG terminal in Finland. The volume of gas received from Lithuania has increased significantly, as of the 1st of December the total volume received from Lithuania reached 17.6 TWh.

The volume of gas received from Russia in 11 months of 2022 was 73% lower when compared with the same period of 2021.

The 1st of January 2023 marks the coming into force of the ban on gas supplies from Russia. Conexus reports that Latvia’s gas infrastructure and system users are ready for that.
Transit from Russia to Kaliningrad using Estonian-Latvian market zone will be allowed. At the same time it will be allowed to reject transit requests to reduce the influence on other system users and to promote security of supplies.
