Gas stores at Latvia’s Inčukalns storage facility reaches 14.34 TWh

For the first time in history Inčukalns underground gas storage facility (PGK) has continued pumping natural gas after the start of the natural gas withdrawal season, with gas stores reaching 1.424 TWh in a month’s time, as informed by Conexus Baltic Grid JSC (Conexus).
As of 13 November the total volume of gas stored at Inčukalns PGK reaches 14.34 TWh.
To promote the security and continued supplies of gas, it was decided to perform additional injection of gas this gas withdrawal season, Conexus informs, adding that this is possible thanks to the storage performance improvement project, which helped increase the storage facility’s flexibility and preparedness to ensure uninterrupted flow of gas in both directions.
As BNN was informed by Inčukalns PGK manager Rinalds Dimiņš, modernisation efforts at the facility have helped grow its operations, contributing a great deal towards uninterrupted and secure supplies of natural gas.
«These changes are historic because the facility has become adapted to new conditions, not the other way around, which is a very important aspect in the current geopolitical situation. Because the system’s users are provided with natural gas injection capacity, it is good that users continue using the option to store gas at the facility,» says Dimiņš.
